As we are very aware, the effect of park closures and access to recreational space that exists is a major concern leading into the peak summer period.

An Auckland meeting was held Oct 30th by Auckland Track Users Forum with NZRA and Walking Access Commission.

The agenda was focused on the Auckland region and considered short to medium term actionable alternate access due to closure of Auckland Regional Parks.

Two obvious clusters of interest were discussed:

• Hunua Ranges, particularly area under Watercare management.

• ½ day to day-long tramps within 1-2 hour driving distance.

Senior Ranger Stu Leighton provided current news from council and informed of some announcements regarding Track Developments soon. Stu reaffirmed council's recognition of the importance to the region and beyond to inform the public of summer access plans and to provide information of other places to go walking.

Walking Access Commission are working very closely with Auckland Track Users Forum on Alternate Track Access Planning. NZRA will continue to facilitate and support the process.
