Sector & Industry Engagement - Regional Forums

November 6th saw Hillary Outdoors host our Tongariro Regional Forum. Attendance from local Hiking and Whanganui River Providers to Outdoor Education Centres, Outdoor Instructors and Ruapehu Regional Council amongst others made up the room.

Proceedings opened with a mihi from Tom Ngata and saw informative presentations and discussion from NZ Recreation Association, Walking Access Commission & Mountain Safety Council.

A break out group was held by Aidan Tansell, Worksafe and focused on safety needs in the region. Operators were extremely pleased to have the ability to discuss issues directly with agency and deepen their relationship with Worksafe and health and safety in the workplace. Aidan was also accompanied by local Worksafe representative from Rotorua.

The strength of agency and peak body support for the region was most evident. In addition to the presentations and break out group above, local Learning Support Advisor Carolyn Verhagen from Skills Active contributed greatly to the day. Representatives from Education Outdoors NZ and local iwi were also valuable contributors to the day.

Feedback from the day ranges from great appreciation of the tailored agenda to suit regional needs and hearing about work being done and in pipeline at national level. The networking was invaluable, and many providers commented on ability to make business connections and respond to questions in a small comfortable environment. Attendees spoke to insights gained to other types of providers and organisations that provide a greater awareness of who and what is around them.

NZRA would like to extend a huge gratitude to Hillary Outdoors for hosting us and a special mention to Z for the quality of catering. The Hillary Outdoors Leadership centre is a well-appointed venue for these types of events with an surrounding that would inspire any group of people to greatness. We encourage any of you to consider them for your next meeting. http://www.hillaryoutdoors.co.nz/tongariro/
